A ruling, on the books given that 1972, known as the Secure Harbor Provisions states, in aspect, “the federal anti-kickback law’s major goal is to guard sufferers and the federal well being care applications from fraud and abuse by curtailing the corrupting influence of income on health care decisions”… it goes on to say, … “anybody who knowingly and willfully receives or pays something of worth to affect the referral of federal well being care plan enterprise, such as Medicare and Medicaid, can be held accountable for a felony. See Expekt Referrer Code.
Violations of the law are punishable by up to 5 years in jail, legal fines up to ,000, administrative civil cash penalties up to ,000, and exclusion from participation in federal well being care packages.”
A referral service serves both the senior and the elder care service provider in this method:
Service companies register with the referral service
A senior looking for a service is asked for their place
The referral corporation now emails, phones or faxes each and every service inside the preferred zip code to present you with this referral. (You are offered the identify, telephone range and deal with of the senior)
You and your employees rapidly reply – you know if you get there initial, you have a increased opportunity of contracting with the senior
The senior now receives a number of gross sales calls from great men and women who all say the similar matter, “You ought to pick my firm since we are the best”
You contract with the senior
The referral firm now sends you a bill. The bill is generally based mostly on the dollar sum you cost the senior.
(Illustration: An assisted living facility that prices $three,000 per month will normally owe the referral service a charge of ,500. Their neighbor, the assisted residing facility across the road expenses $one,500 per month and will owe the exact same referral service a charge for 0.00 for the identical consumer, identical service)
Representatives of referral businesses generally earn commissions. This can also pose a concern. If a family’s revenue depended on earning a substantial fee, the temptation might be there to immediate a senior to a service that
a. Expenses much more
b. In which the workers has a historical past of ‘closing’ the sale.
If your enterprise is looking for a legal strategy to connect with the senior industry, see Expekt Referrer Code.

Thought the time, I have been always state that is fundamental to live with high ethical standards not offending anybody, and always helping the less fortunate. We should always be aware of not offend any person.
In this opportunity I would like to share an interview with you all. This interview took place in Miami Florida a week ago. In this occasion I was very explicit about some issues, situations and lack of interest in the needs of our country, particularly in our community.
Is responsibility of every, and each one of us, not to be in silence when we see abuses and lack of justice with defenseless people: elderly, citizens with needs, and I would also like to mention “undocumented people”; people like us, with same feelings dreams and needs. That is the main reason for them to be here: to pursue their dream of achieve a better life, with dignity and without hunger or lack of education or medicines, just like any other human being that deserves to live his/her life with dignity.
Dear friends: I would like to deeply apology if I aggravates any of you with my words, but I truly believe that an individual must demonstrate not only with words but with facts that we want to contribute to make this society and this world a better one for us to live.
Thank you very much to dedicate your time to read this message and please share it with anyone that is important for you.

Enjoying Visits With Your Elderly Family Member

It’s not easy to see someone close to you lose her ability to communicate as she once did. As the family member of a person who is confused, you may find communicating with your loved one increasingly difficult. Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias can affect a person’s ability to understand information and make his needs known. As a result, there may be times when a family member with Alzheimer’s is confused, irritable, stubborn, argumentative, or even verbally abusive.
As we enter the holiday season, connecting with our friends and family becomes even more important, according to Rita Altman, R.N., who recently wrote an article for The Huffington Post about tips on visiting relatives with memory loss.
The holidays often spark memories of years past for the elderly. Altman suggests “traveling back in time together” and recalling memories of long ago, which can be easier for those suffering from memory loss, and can provide joy. Make sure to listen intently and ask questions, even if you’ve heard a story once or many times. Provide your full attention to show respect for your loved one.
There are other ways to make your visits with an elderly relative as pleasant and stress-free as possible for both of you, no matter the time of year.
Identify yourself. Remind the person who you are. Don’t ask her to identify you, as this can cause frustration. For example, say, “Mom, it’s your daughter Mary. How are you today?”
Approach with care. Someone with Alzheimer’s disease may be very sensitive to nonverbal cues and his need for personal space. If your family member does not recognize you, he may not want you to touch him or get too close. Before touching this loved one, let him know what you plan to do. For example, say, “Dad, I’m going to help you put on your sweater.” Smile reassuringly and use gentle touches.
Be aware of your paraverbal communication. Paraverbal communication is the tone, volume, and rate of your speech. It can greatly affect the meaning of a statement, depending on how it is used. An example is the question, “What’s wrong?” You could ask this in a calm, supportive way, or in an angry, impatient way.
Speak slowly and allow silence. Allow time for your loved one to answer one question before you ask the next. It may take up to 30 seconds for your family member with dementia to process the question you have asked.
Keep your messages short and simple. Be specific in your statements and requests, and try to physically demonstrate what you are saying at the same time. Don’t quiz your family member on what he remembers. For example, instead of saying, “Who did I bring with me today, Dad?” say, “Dad, look who came with me to visit today. It’s your sister, Jane.”
Use other forms of communication. In addition to using spoken words, supplement your interaction with other communication forms. Listen to music, apply hand lotion, or bring in fresh flowers for your loved one to smell.
Don’t argue with your family member. Don’t try to argue with your loved one if she’s confused about the facts of a situation. Try to understand how she’s feeling. Often, fear and confusion are at the root of her behavior. Offer reassurance instead of trying to correct misconceptions.
In general, try to ignore verbal outbursts or insults. Remember that it’s usually the disease talking, not the person. By using a reassuring manner, you can calm your family member, allowing you both to enjoy your time together.

The main clinical manifestations of AD are selective retention deterioration and dementia. AD is the most standard cause of dementia. The United States is plagued with various forms of fundamentalist religions claming to be christian in origin. Many of them claim that it is important to literally follow what they call the “word of God” or some writings of some former spiritual icon- but how can all these religions be right if all of them are claiming that they follow the holy scriptures and yet none of them can ever seem to come to an agreement? There are verses in the new testament which command believers to “submit to your elders” but the question we need to ask is “who are our elders?” and “who is the real church?” Have you ever asked those questions? I am not going to tell you who you should follow and it is not up to me to tell people to follow any particular person. In doing so, I will be starting a new religion. In fact, following a person and his doctrine without questioning will actually end up making you into a fundamentalist which leads people to isolate and polarize themselves from other human beings. It is sad to see how many religious groups subtly teach children to despise their own parents and disrespect people of other beliefs and race. This of course is actually doing the opposite of what scripture teaches and what many other religions teach. The results of having a fundamentalist doctrine controlling your life could suck everything that is good within you and lead you to divorce, a broken family, disrespect for elders and a perverted interpretaton of the roles of men, women and children.
Take heed of the words ” I praise you Father in heaven that you have hidden these things from the wise and learned” Do you know who said those words? Why don’t you do a search and find out yourself? Yes, this is the way to come out from all forms of fundamentalism. To dare ask questions about what you believe! If you have been brought up in fundamentalism it might be very difficult in the beginning because a type of glue is stuck in your head and has prevented you from making your own conclusions and decisions on many things.
In the United States, children and teenagers have fundamentalist doctrines pounded into them by loud speaking preachers who like to repeat the same messages over and over again but fail to see that the “vain repetitions” are of pagan origin and are spoken about by prophets. If you don’t believe this, then read Mt 5-7 and take head of what was pronounced as the greatest commandment which was to “Do for others what you want them to do for you” You may say , this is NOT our doctrine but this sermon confirmed that the whole of the law (bible) can be summed up in “Do for others what you want them to do for you!”
So, why is it that we see so many people studing Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic or swaring by this or that interpretation have completely missed the point altogether? Well, you can read about the Saducees. What about those who are not studious but are always trying to convince people that the miraculous power of God is with them? Go and read about the Pharisees. Remember there are also others mentioned like Judas Iscariot who was not even detected as an evil person and of course the Samaritans. All the characters that you currently see in religious circles are exposed in the holy scriptures. These scriptures were meant for our encouragement and not to spread fundamentalists but rather to release people from it. Unless you humble yourself and become like a little child you will never see the kingdom of God. Do you know who said that?

Biblical Creation is the foundation for everything in life. Perhaps you are struggling with the meaning of life, and your reason for existance. Modern science leaves no explanation for our purpose here on this planet, but God DOES! If people are merely globs of tissue evolving into the next best thing, then our only purpose is to live and die. But, in God’s world, we see purpose for everything we do. And that is to Glorify HIM!

Women in Islam versus Women in Judeo Christian Tradition
The three religions agree on one basic fact: Both women and men are created by God, The Creator of the whole universe. However, disagreement starts soon after the creation of the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve. The Judaeo-Christian conception of the creation of Adam and Eve is narrated in detail in Genesis 2:4-3:24. God prohibited both of them from eating the fruits of the forbidden tree. The serpent seduced Eve to eat from it and Eve, in turn, seduced Adam to eat with her.

A conflict between faith and science rages on in regard to the origins of man. Is the story of creation in Genesis to be taken literally? Is there a way to confirm both the inerrancy of Scripture, and the scientifically held beliefs pertaining to man’s origin? There is evidence to bridge the chasm between the two opposing viewpoints, and it comes from gematria, the evaluation of what is written in Scripture through the numerical value of words in Hebrew and Greek.

Delirium: A Caregiver’s Elder Care Guide for Prevention and Treatment

You may describe your parent as acting different or just not himself, but you may not know that he has a serious medical condition known as delirium.
Delirium is described as a sudden change in mental status causing severe confusion and an inability to focus attention that fluctuates throughout the day. The change may happen within hours or evolve over several days. You may notice your parent is agitated, hallucinating or you may not be able to wake him. The term “sundowning” is sometimes used to describe this condition since many of the symptoms are evident during the evening or nighttime.
The frail elderly have a higher incidence of delirium during hospitalization. Studies have shown that 40-50% of patients age 65 or older are stricken with this disorder.
These mental changes often are caused from underlying medical conditions such as urinary tract infections or pneumonia. A change in your parent’s mental status may also be linked to dehydration, malnutrition or severe constipation. Other risk factors include dementia, alcohol abuse, and terminal illness.
Medications including those prescribed for Parkinson’s, prednisone and ciprofloxacin(antibiotic) may be factors in the incidence of delirium. A history of taking over-the-counter drugs such as Benadryl(diphenhydramine), antihistamines and cold remedies that have the ingredient, diphenhydramine, should also be evaluated.
Medical procedures including physical restraints and soft restraints such as IV lines, foley catheters and oxygen tubing may affect the elderly adversely. Environmental aspects that contribute to the occurrence of delirium involve a loss of time orientation. New drug regimens also may impact the elderly in unintended ways.
You know your parent better than anyone and may notice a subtle change in his personality and abilities first. Report any changes in your parent’s mental status to the medical and/or nursing home staff as soon as possible. This change may be the only apparent indication of an infection. Delirium is serious and can necessitate a stay in a long-term care facility and the need for rehabilitation services.
Help lessen your parent’s risk for delirium by making sure the doctor is aware of all medications your parent is taking, including alcohol. Ask the doctor for non-prescription drug recommendations. Make sure your parent is not taking medicine containing Benadryl.

Avoiding Sibling Feuds Over Elder Care

As people age, their health problems can worsen. This can complicate the lives and sixball juggle of their children. The concern over a situation of an elderly parent can not only affect the children, but also the relationships between those children. When this occurs the children face sibling conflicts.
One of the most common causes of sibling elder-care conflict is when one sibling winds taking most of the responsibility for the care of their parent. When the responsibility of a parent falls onto the shoulders of one child, they begin to resent their siblings. Mary
Weathers, a Registered Nurse and Franchise Owner with Always Best Care Senior Services of Flagler County, Florida works with many seniors and their families in arranging care needs. During a recent meeting with a family, the client looked at Mary in disbelief, not being able to get over how her children were treating each other.
A common cause of sibling feud, when dealing with an elderly parent, is who controls the parent’s finances. A major question siblings ask one another is, “Who will control Mom or Dad’s money?” When a decision is made and a child takes the lead, it can sometimes result in financial abuse. One sibling may feel more powerful than another when being the sole controller of the parent’s funds.
End-of-life care is another point of concern for children of an elderly parent. A lot of children are faced with some big questions over end-of-life care for their parents afte they have a heart attack, massive stroke, or other medical emergency. The children may battle over how much doctors should intervene to keep a parent alive after they are on a feeding tube, respirator, or other medical interment. The siblings will spend some emotional time together, talking over individual views on how much medical intervention should be used. When they are able to agree on the care for their parent, they can be
relieved and emerge with greater respect for each other.
Still, many families in such situations are surprised that they rocket right back to their childhood roles in the family. The oldest sibling may still try to boss around their little brother or sister, and the youngest child may still be seen as “the baby”, whose ideas and contributions are too immature to matter – even though he or she may be a banker in their forties at the time.
To ward off sibling conflicts, families should meet to determine what needs to be done concerning care for the parent. Educating all siblings on their parent’s condition is a good way to make sure the responsibility does not fall on one individual. Once all aspects are discussed and understood by each child, a “divide-and-conquer” approach can help. To take the weight off of one individual, delegate various aspects of caregiving such as insurance, respite care, doctor communications, financial affairs, or home maintenance. With this method, the siblings will feud less and be able to spend more time and energy on their parent. If you would like to learn more about how to avoid sibling feuds over eldercare, visit www.alwaysbestcare.com to find the Always Best Care Senior Services offices nearest you.

Oxycontin: Prescription Drug Abuse & Testing

]]>
OxyContin is an opium derivative, which contains the same active ingredient as in Percodan and Percocet. OxyContin is a very strong narcotic pain reliever similar to morphine. OxyContin is designed so that its oxycodone salt is slowly released over time. OxyContin products are in schedule II of the federal Controlled Substances Act of 1970 in United States.
OxyContin Prescription:
OxyContin is an opiate agonist that provides pain relief by acting on opioid receptors in the spinal cord, brain, and possibly in the tissues directly. Opioids, natural or synthetic classes of drugs that act like morphine have been recognized as the most effective pain relievers available and thus OxyContin is prescribed for moderate to high pain relief associated with injuries, bursitis, dislocation, fractures, neuralgia, arthritis, and lower back pain. It is also used after surgeries and for pain relief after childbirth. It is a commonly used medication for pain relief in cancer patients.
OxyContin Abuse in U.S.:
The power painkiller OxyContin is being abused by more and more people across United States. The heroin-like effects of the drug attract both legitimate and illegitimate users. Although the diversion and abuse of OxyContin appeared initially in the eastern U.S., it has now spread to the western U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii. As a result, OxyContin-related adverse health effects increased markedly in recent years.
OxyContin abused is increasing rapidly due to many factors:
•It contains high levels of opium which makes it highly addictive.
•OxyContin is not laced with other conjugates so an addict can decide exactly how much of the drug is required to get that high.
•OxyContin is significantly cheaper than street drugs. No wonder, OxyContin is widely referred to as the poor man’s heroin.
Most individuals who abuse OxyContin seek the euphoric effects to mitigate pain and to avoid withdrawal symptoms associated with opium abstinence.
Effects of OxyContin Abuse:
Chief hazard from all opioid usage is the respiratory depression and OxyContin is no exception. Respiratory depression occurs mostly in elderly or debilitated patients, often following large initial doses in non-tolerant patients, or when opioids are given in conjunction with other agents that depress respiration. Other than respiratory depression, some serious adverse reactions that may be associated with OxyContin use include apnea, respiratory arrest, circulatory depression, and hypertension. It may also cause a reduction in motility associated with an increase in smooth muscle tone in the antrum of the stomach and duodenum. Delayed digestion of food in the small intestine and a subsequent decrease in propulsive contractions has also been reported.
Some common side effects of OxyContin are constipation, nausea, sedation, dizziness, vomiting, headache, dry mouth, sweating, and weakness.
OxyContin Testing:
OxyContin can be detected in urine testing within one or two days following drug exposure although hair follicle based drug analysis may even be performed at longer intervals.
Laboratory testing may involve Antibody based screening assays or Chromatographic procedures. A Mass spectrometric screening can also be done for further validation purposes. However, preliminary evaluation of patients or periodic monitoring can be done by one of those easy-to-use kits which usually work on the principles of specific antigen-antibody interactions.

The elderly or young adults will need different types of help so giving the correct age is very important. Another question you may not want to answer is a list of the drugs you are using on a daily basis.
Just remember these questions need to be answered truthfully to decide whether or not the facility is capable of helping you with your type of addiction. Answering questions truthfully will ensure you will be getting the best care that is appropriate for you. Getting over the initial embarrassment is not hard if you keep your ultimate goal in mind and that is finding the help you so desperately need.
Choose a Reputable Substance Abuse Facility
When you are looking for a substance abuse facility, don’t forget that you need to make sure the facilities you are enquiring about are licensed to give care. You need to find a facility with trained professionals who have all dealt with substance abuse problems and their treatment. Don’t waste your time on a new facility that is full of hype with little quality to back it up.
Look for a facility that already has a presence in the community as a good place to go. If you choose a facility that has been in business for years, you are probably going to find great experienced staff that can help you no matter what your needs are.
A substance abuse facility should take care of you both in your body and in your mind. Just dealing with one problem and not the other will not give you the right tools you need to succeed later on down the road. It is important to get to the root of the problems in order to be able to pass beyond the addiction. Cleaning your body without dealing with your mind will soon leave you feeling empty and drag you right back down through the spiral of addiction.
Now that you know what to look for in a substance abuse facility, it should be easier when you make your decision. Take your time and make sure your research is done before committing to the center and you will soon find yourself leading a clean drug free life in a matter of months.

If you turn on the television or read the newspaper, on a daily basis there are reports of drug related issues that are plaguing Oklahoma. Many Oklahomans believe that drug addiction is just a way of life and you have to live with it every single day for the rest of your life. What many Oklahomans do not know s that substance abuse treatment programs, like Oklahoma’s Narconon Arrowhead, can end drug abuse and give a person their life back.

If you think only adults are prone to drug and alcohol abuse then you’re absolutely wrong. As a matter of fact, American kids especially those in the elementary grades are already recorded to have tried using drugs and alcohol at their young age. Their parent may not be aware of it, but kids are very curious and they might have taken a few bottles of liquor from their kitchen cupboard. Sometimes, a classmate or a friend may get

New Study Verifies Addiction Increases Risk of Suicide Amongst Those Addicted
The greatest fear of anyone associated with a friend, co-worker or loved one caught in the cycle of addiction is that the person will die of an overdose. Most overdoses are considered accidental. At least that is how the families and friends of the addict want to look at their death. However, a new study by SAMSHA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration) in 2008 showed that 8.3 million adults in the U.S. had serious thoughts of committing suicide in the last year.

Is Abuse In Nursing Homes Running Rampant In The United States?

Nursing homes are supposed to protect the residents in that reside intheir facilities rather than harm them. However nursing home abuse is dramatically on the rise in our country.
Nursing home abuse is an abominable situation. It’s an absolutely terrible problem in the United States that is leaving many of our neediest and sickest citizens in pain and suffering from a constant feeling of helplessness and desperation.
Abusive situations are affecting residents of assisted living facilities as well as nursing homes in virtually every part of our country.
Nursing home abuse is the result of wrongful conduct by a caregiver or a resident. It also refers to the general negligence when it is prevalent within the facility itself. However, whether it’s caused by an individual or by the dictates of a facility’s management staff, the results are the same – emotional and/or physical harm to our elderly.
More than three million people in the United States rely on a nursing home’s services and many of these people are vulnerable to abuse. Naturally, this abuse is a major concern for the families of the residents.
Although some assisted living facilities and nursing homes do provide quality care others neglect their residents all too frequently. One of the reasons is that the homes are becoming increasingly understaffed is because the home owners want to realize increased profits.
Because the staff in such homes is usually either poorly or insufficiently trained, and then grossly underpaid and overworked, they often are rude. It’s not unusual for them to become abusive to the residents – even when the residents beg them to help with such simple needs as being taken to the bathroom or being given a glass of water.
Nursing home residents depend on the staff of the facility to take care of all or many of their needs, such as water, food, medicine, grooming, toileting, turning, and stimulation. Because the homes are understaffed many of their residents are dehydrated, starved, and over medicated. And many also suffer pain from pressure sores.
In addition, residents are ignored, isolated, and deprived of social stimulation and social contact.
When a family is considering looking into long term care facilities for an aging relative they should be aware of these heartbreakingly common problems before moving their relative into the facility. However, if their relative is already in a facility it is up to them to determine whether their loved one is being subjected to abuse.
It could be a bit difficult to determine, especially if the resident is either reluctant or unable to communicate about what has been happening to them. Therefore it’s necessary for the family members to visit often and pay attention to how their loved one is being cared for.

The Greenhouse Effect – What Is It?
When most people talk about the greenhouse effect they are referring to what has happened to our planet due to the manmade addition of gases to the atmosphere. These gases were released by the burning of fossil fuels such as petroleum, natural gas, and coal. It’s as if a blanket was thrown over the planet. That blanket is now keeping the upper layers of the atmosphere colder and the lower layers warmer.
